The Lightning Before the Thunder

January 22, 2018

I woke up this morning with a slight case of the “Monday’s.” I stayed up later than I should have last night after having some friends over for dinner, it was raining cats and dogs, and I just was NOT feeling it.

On a more pleasant note, the weather today in Chicago this morning was unseasonable warm, so I assured myself that in spite of the clouds in the sky it would be a gorgeous and productive day.

And with this new frame of mind I grabbed my keys to head out the door, as I began to exit my apartment I was met with bright blue flash of light startled I froze. Soon after followed by this enormous BOOM, I can't remember a time I heard thunder that loud. After I gathered my bearings the song, “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons, popped into my head.

In this song the artist sings about the many times he was over looked, mocked, and laughed at by his peers in while in pursuit of his dreams of stardom. Then (rather braggadociously) he begins to harmonize about the way he has, in his eyes, “made it.” And how he now stands center stage while his Nay Sayers are in the “nose bleeds.”

Although I am not necessarily fond of the lyrics, it is the chorus that captivates me.

During the chorus the artist says:

Thunder, feel the thunder

Lightning and the thunder

Thunder, feel the thunder

Lighting and the thunder

Thunder, Thunder

Thunder

What came to mind this morning as I reminisced on the lyrics where the many times in ministry we were called move silently. We fast, pray, and study our Bible quietly, as a result our light shines to the world brightly like a “city on the top of a hill.”

I have come to believe there is so much more to us than the light that the world sees. I believe what they see in us is simply the “Lighting before the Thunder.” That just as I was shaken by the sound of the thunder that came after the lightning, so shall this world be shaken by the ministry and miracles that will be wrought by our feminine hands . If at anytime anyone doubts you. Remind them that they may be used to the lightning, but not to sleep on you because the thunder is soon to follow.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father

John 14:12
