When I tell people what I do some of the most common questions asked are, "Mona, What made you want to sell hair?" or "Everybody sells hair ,You couldn't pick something else?"
In this bustling hair sales industry many may do what I do but their WHY is not the same as mine.
Several years ago my mom was diagnosed with cancer, I painfully witnessed every strand of her hair come out and the sight of that struck a nerve with me.
Although my mom showed no signs of worry or disappointment when losing her hair,I knew how big of a change it was for her and wanted to do something about it. So I got to work using my creative skills to make stylish wigs for her, she loved them so much she would ask for a wig every week almost! I found that I was passionate about wig making and especially loved making them for her. I soon began to think to myself "Why can't I do that for others who may be battling or is battled the same illness as my mom?" I can sell hair to ladies all over the world and donate a certain amount of wigs to cancer patients/survivors using that money.
At the time, I had no idea how I was going to run a business, work, work in ministry etc. I just knew I was going to get it done because I knew my WHY.
Let's be honest ya'll!! This road has not been easy and I didn't expect it to be. I've lost friends more than I've gained, I've cried more tears at night than I've ever cried before and I've also had days when I wanted to just give up and say forget it .
I am only 22 years old ,I could be doing a lot of other things rather than trying to build a business, but I choose not to because my WHY meant something to me and I am very passionate about what I do. I have a full-time job, I am very active in the church, I'm a pastor's kid so missing church is rarely an option, I travel and sing with my siblings all while in the process of finishing off my degree.
Even I ask myself, how I do it? Through this process, I have personally discovered that when God is in the center of your decision making, the weight somehow gets lifted and the fear of failure disappears. You MUST be passionate about your purpose. I encourage all my readers to discover your WHY, put God first and WERK it!!
In closing, I would like to leave you guys with one of my favorite quotes,
"If you want to be successful, prepare to be doubted and tested"-Unknown
